2018 Games Review

2018 Games Review

2 Star Games

Shin Megami Tensei III: I really wanted to like this but couldn't get into it at all.

Sonic Forces: Dull and you can only collect 100 rings maximum

Lego Worlds: Randomized, procedurally generated worlds.

Fe: I couldn't get into it and it had poor motion controls

We Happy Few: Too easy to get "detected" and have an entire town kill you very quickly

3 Star Games

Chase: Cold Case Investigations: Barely interactable and an abrupt ending

Adventure Time: Nameless Kingdom: Buggy but fun adventure game.

Shin Megami Tensei IV: A bit better then III but I also struggled to get into it

Steep: Bad snowboarding is somehow better than no snowboarding

Mario and Rabbids: Why didn't I like this, it's perfect for me?

Yo-Kai Watch 2: Could have been DLC for the first game

Ni No Kuni II: Dull compared to the first game.

No Mans Sky Next: Vast improvement on the original game but still very tedious

Shiny: Some nice ideas but frustrating in too many places

4 Star Games

Yo-Kai Watch: Fun adventure game but battles are too easy and monsters a bit generic

GTA Chinatown Wars: Odd perspective for a GTA game but a good game also

Fire Emblem: Echo of Memories: Too many spawning enemies and a bit simplistic for a Fire

Emblem

Minecraft Story Mode Season 2: It's fine. I can't remember anything about it. There was a

Llama?

Last Day of June: Fun game let down by a rotten ending

Life Is Strange Before The Storm: Pointless prequel

Fire Emblem Warriors: Not just as good as Hyrule Warriors but enjoyable none the less

Laytons Mystery: Katreille and the Millionaires Conspiracy: Too many janky puzzles to be a

classic Layton

Blackwood Crossing: Very average walking simulator

Divinity Original Sin: I enjoyed what of this I played but got fed up stuck in the opening town for so long

Detective Pikachu: A weak ending on a great game

Tekken 7: A game I played

Bridge Constructor and Bridge Constructor Stunts: Fun with a steep difficulty curve

Hollow Knight: Another tough, tough game, but an amazing one. Wish it was a bit shorter or

easier for me.

Octopath Traveler: 7 minute random battles put my off this otherwise amazing game..

Pocket City: aka Sim City Mobile, good while it lasts.

FFXII: The Zodiac Age. A game in three stages First 25%: Aren't Vaan and Penelo living in an interesting and amazing world to explore. Second 25%. Better give Fran something to do. Last 50% Ashe, Basch, Balthier and others run around world with stones and nothing happens.

Far From Noise: Short story game that's a little too philosophical for it's own good.

Wario Ware Gold

5 Star Games

Lego Dimensions Year 2: So sad to see this amazing game go. All I'm left with is a big box of bricks and an empty wallet.

Walking Dead Season 3: Clem is a badass. It'll be a shame if Season 4 is not complete but that's the way it goes.

Syberia 3: Technically a bad game but I enjoyed it.

Ever Oasis: Engaging town building/dungeon crawler

Horizon Zero Dawn: Fantastic main character and story, if the open world itself wasn't the most exciting

Prey: Bioshock IN SPACE!

Tacoma: Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture IN SPACE!

Sexy Brutale: Stopping creepy simultaneous murders

Subsurface Circular: Short story game with a good ending

Steamworld Dig 2: An excellent sequel

Tales of Berseria: The bad guys win.

Batman : The Enemy Within: Enjoyable Bruce Wayne story.

South Park The Fractured But Whole: Less but more substantial battles and a stronger story

Hey Pikmin: Enjoyable if functional platformer

What Remains of Edith Finch: Sad and unique walking simulator

Agents of Mayhem: I enjoyed this Saints Row spin off. Sad it didn't do well but I understand why.

Lara Croft GO!: Surprisingly good puzzle game

Bridge Constructor Portal: Gets more difficult than funny towards the end but any Portal is good.

A Way Out: Short, enjoyable, proper co-op game.

A Hat In Time: Excellent 3D platformer

Steven Universe: Save The Light: Not only an excellent Paper Mario style RPG but perfectly

captures the Steven Universe world.

Golf Story: Golf and RPG together at last

Train Sim World: Fun while it lasts but too short on missions for me

Subara City: Match 3 city building game. Made for me!

Poi: Very good Mario Sunshine-lite game

De Blob 2: As good as ever

Donut County: Katamari style game where you play as a hole instead of a ball. Funny story too.

Metroid: Return of Samus: Best Metroid game in years

Top 10 Games of 2018

Guardians of the Galaxy Telltale: On of my personal favourite Telltale games for telling a fun Guardians story and allowing you to play as all of the Guardians

Rakuen: So sad

Danganronpa 3: While I'm not 100% fond of the ending of this third game the adventure of

getting there is as always an amazing experience.

Thimbleweed Park: An old fashioned point and click experience elevated by two things. One: You play as five separate protagonists allowing for unique puzzles. Two: They know...

Mass Effect Andromeda: I really enjoyed this despite all the bad press it got, a fantastic space adventure

Resident Evil VII: So scary. Mostly.

Doki Doki Literature Club: A very dark game with meta twists. And it's free

Pyre: The basketball game in Pyre is fine but this game is all about the story, characters and choices and they are expertly crafted

Super Mario Odyssey: The most variety in a Mario game to date and so much to do

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: An absolute masterpiece. An experience
